NIST Heat Transmission Properties of Insulating and Building Materials

This database has been designed to prompt the user for acceptable choices and to perform checking on the user's input commands. All searches start from the Database Search Menu, which provides the user the opportunity to select from a combination of individual data fields and the corresponding data in the database.  

Instructions
Step 1.
  • Enter up to seven criteria to be searched. 
  • Use either the tab key or mouse to move between the fields. 
  • Three fields' criteria (Material, Designation, and Material Source) are set by choosing from a complete list of data presented in a drop-down menu. 
  • The following values are the default maximum and minimum values for the fields of Bulk Density, Mean Temperature, Thickness, and Thermal Property. If the user specifies one bound but not the other, either the minimum value for the lower bound or the maximum for the upper bound is assumed.

  • Choose the system of units. The default is Systeme International (SI).
  • (Optional). Select a field to sort by.
Step 2.
  • Press the Start Search button to start the search. 
  • Press the Clear Entries button to reset all the entries. 
Step 3.
  • The resulting records are displayed in a table.
    • For detailed information on any record, click its ID number.
    • For a plot of the results, click the "Plot Data" button.
    • Click on the name of an item in the detail page for its definition.
  • If no matches are found, a message is displayed asking the user to refine the query and try again.
