Measurement Method: Neutron diffraction
"The neutron diffraction measurements were made on the Special Environment Powder Diffractometer... at IPNS... For the experiment, the... powder was die pressed into 9.5 mm... diam.,... 12 mm... long pellets, which were placed in a Ag foil lined quartz glass capsule. The capsule was mounted in the high-temperature controlled-environment furnace, which allows samples to be heated... while in a controlled gaseous atmosphere... the sample temperature was ramped, at 1 °C/min,... Rietveld analysis... was used to determine the lattice parameters... the Ag lattice constant was used to calculate the sample temperature... Data were collected in flowing (200 cm3 min-1) air, 0.980% oxygen in nitrogen, and pure argon... Thermal expansion coefficients were determined... by means of a linear least-squares fit of the temperature dependence of the lattice constants."
