Material Specification for Y:124; [Y-Ba-Cu-O]
Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "The synthesis protocol... was essentially a two-step process. In the first step, a stable precursor matrix with the nominal composition BaCu2O3 (essentially it is a 1:1 mixture of BaCuO2 and CuO) was prepared by reacting CuO and Ba(NO3)2 in the appropriate ratio at 1175 K for about 48 h, with several intermittent grindings. In the second step the matrix was ground, mixed thoroughly with Y2O3, pelletised and sintered at 1085 K in flowing oxygen at ambient pressure for long intervals of time (more than one week) during which the material was taken out from the furnace several times and ground for homogenisation, repelletised and kept for further sintering."

Measurement Method: Neutron diffraction
"The neutron powder diffraction pattern was recorded at room temperature at the Dhruva reactor at Trombay using neutrons of wave length 1.216 σ... The sample was in the form of a cylindrical pellet (12 mm diam., 14 mm height). The pattern was analysed by the Rietveld profile refinement method..."
