Material Specification for Y:123; [Y-Ba-Cu(Fe)-O]
Process: Laser Ablation
Notes: The authors cite E. Narumi et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. Vol. 56, 2684 (1990), and summarize the procedure as follows. "Bulk specimens with Fe, Co and Ni substitutions were made by standard solid-state reaction. Y2O3, BaCO3, and CuO powders were thoroughly mixed with the right proportion of E2O3 (CO3O4 or NiO). The mixed powders were then calcined at 900 °C for (about) 10 h in air. The specimens were ground and pressed into pellets under (about 0.55 GPa = 5.5 kbar) and sintered at 950 °C for over 24 h in oxygen. This procedure was repeated twice... Superconducting thin films were made (from these targets) by laser ablation technique... The substrates used were yttrium-stabilized ZrO2(100) single crystals. Typical film thickness was 200 nm..."

Measurement Method: Four-probe method
"The superconducting transition of the targets was examined by standard four-probe measurements... with a 1 µV onset voltage across the microbridge as the criterion for zero resistance... a microbridge 20-100 µm wide and 100-500 µm long was inscribed by laser patterning."

Measurement Method: SQUID magnetometer
"Magnetic... measurements were performed with a SQUID (Quantum Design) in a field up to 5.5 T. Most of the measurements were done with the sample surface perpendicular to the field (H//c axis)... a disk sample of (about) 0.287 cm diam was made by chemical etching."
