Material Specification for Y:123; [Y-Ba-Cu-O] Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: The authors cite X.D. Wu, et al., Appl. Phys. Lett., Vol. 52, 754 (1988), and summarize the procedure as follows. "... pulses from a 248 nm KrF excimer laser are fired at a rate of 1 Hz onto a rotating Y1Ba2Cu3O7-x target inside the deposition chamber. The ensuing plume of ejected material from the target is collected onto a substrate mounted on a resistively heated holder (the substrate holder temperature, as measured by a thermocouple, may be varied from 25 °C to 650 °C), which is held at a distance of (about) 5 cm from the target. Equilibrium oxygen pressure of a few milli-torr is maintained in the chamber during deposition... Post-deposition annealing at 450 °C in flowing oxygen improved the Tc's significantly... we introduced oxygen directly into the plume emanating from the target by surrounding the plume with an open-ended box-like copper enclosure measuring about 2 cm3 and injecting a jet of oxygen gas directly into the center of this box... Substrates of single-crystal (100)SrTiO3... were used... Typically, films with a thickness of 2000 σ were deposited in about an hour. Immediately following the deposition, the substrate holder was allowed to cool down to room temperature in (33.3 kPa = 250 torr) of oxygen."
