Materials and Properties

Y:124; [Y-Ba-Cu-O]
Material Specification for Y:124; [Y-Ba-Cu-O] Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "The high-pressure crystal growth was done from mixtures of polycrystalline Y123, BaCuO2 and CuO. The Y123 and BaCuO2 were synthesized from oxides and carbonates (at least 99.9% purity) in flowing oxygen at 900 °C, followed by slowly cooling to room temperature. The Y123, BaCuO2 and CuO were mixed in appropriate ratios to obtain the desired starting composition. The high-pressure crystal growth was done using 20% O2 in argon at a total pressure of (0.3 GPa = 3 kbar) (with (60 MPa = 600 bar) O2 pressure). The large capacity vertical HIP furnace (inside diameter=8 cm and height=16 cm) was manufactured by ISO-SPECTRUM Inc."

Measurement Method: X-ray diffraction
"Single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments were carried out using a Picker-Krisel four circle diffractometer... Single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments have been carried out at room temperature for crystals grown in both alumina and zirconia crucibles. Crystals were first trimmed to sub-millimeter size and mounted on the tip of glass fibers using epoxy. A total of 3466 diffractions were collected for each sample with 576 of them being unique... At this time, no absorption corrections have been applied to the data because the samples were small and could not be measured accurately... The 2θ range (deg) (was) 3.5-70.0."
