Materials and Properties

Ba:11; [Ba(K)-Bi-O]
Material Specification for Ba:11; [Ba(K)-Bi-O] Process: Crystal Growth
Notes: The authors cite J. Marcus et al., Solid State Communications, Vol. 78, 967 (1991), and summarize the procedure as follows. "The first crystal studied in this work (sample A) was prepared by electrochemical synthesis while crystals B and C by flux method... The starting mixture used for the flux growth was KOH, Bi2O3, Ba(OH)28OH2 in 15:1:2 molar ratio. We used ZrO2 crucibles. This mixture was first heated at 100 °C/h up to 200 °C, then at the rate of 2 °C to 8 °C and finally cooled at the spontaneous furnace cooling rate (about 100 °C/h). Crystal B was obtained from a mixture in which 1/3 of KOH was substituted by RbOH... Crystals used in these experiments have typical dimensions of 0.4x0.4x0.4 mm3, and have well faced cubic shape and dark blue color... By comparing Tc of these crystals with that obtained on ceramics, we deduce that crystals used in our experiment have potassium concentration 0.35 < x < 0.40."

Measurement Method: Four-probe method
"We used four contacts in a van der Pauw configuration to measure transport properties. Contacts are on the (100) surface. Hall effect was measured in magnetic fields up to 5 T by reversing the magnetic field direction for each measurement... Tconset and ΔTc are, respectively, the onset and the broadening (90% to 10%) of the resistive transition." No additional measurement details were noted.
