Materials and Properties

LaBa:336; [La-Ba(Ca)-Cu-O]
Material Specification for LaBa:336; [La-Ba(Ca)-Cu-O] Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "All samples... were synthesized by a solid state reaction method. Stoichiometric amounts of La2O3 (pre-heated at 1250 K), Ba(NO3)2, CaCO3 and CuO were mixed and calcined at 1200-1225 K for 24 h. The reacted mixtures were ground well, made into pellets and sintered again at 1270-1300 K for 72 h. It was observed that the sintering temperature had to be reduced progressively as the amount of Ca in the samples increased. The pellets were then pulverized and pressed again into pellets (2 mm thick and 12 mm dia.) and sintered at 1275 K, after which they were annealed in oxygen at 1225 K for 4 h and slow cooled (1 K/min) in flowing oxygen to 500 K followed by furnace cooling to room temperature."

Measurement Method: X-ray diffraction
"CuKα X-ray diffraction patterns for all samples were recorded on a Philips diffractometer (PW1820). The XRD patterns of these samples were indexed on the basis of a tetragonal unit cell and the refined lattice parameters were calculated by a least-squares fitting procedure."
