Materials and Properties

Y:123; [Y-Ba-Cu-O]
Material Specification for Y:123; [Y-Ba-Cu-O] Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "Mixtures of Y2O3, CuO and BaCO3 have been calcinated at 880 °C. After milling, the resulting powders were uniaxially pressed at room temperature (RT) and subsequently pressureless sintered at 920 °C. Different microstructures have been obtained by using different soak times. The resulting discs (about 5 mm thickness and 25 mm diameter) were prepared metallographically."

Measurement Method: Vickers indentation
"... the Vickers indentation method was used with loads ranging from 10 N to 100 N. After indentation a symmetric crack pattern appears... A dimensional analysis yields a relation between indentation load, P, crack length, c, and the toughness of the material, Kc: Kc = ε·(E/H)1/2·P·c-3/2 where E is Young's modulus and H, the hardness. We used the microhardness value of Hv=8.7 GPa and E = 180 GPa..."
