Materials and Properties

Bi:2212; [Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O]
Material Specification for Bi:2212; [Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O] Process: Melt Processed
Notes: "All samples... were manufactured by a melt casting process... appropriate amounts of Bi2O3, SrO, CaO and CuO were mixed, transferred to an aluminium oxide crucible, heated to 1030 °C (for 0.5 h) until the mixture was completely molten and then poured into a copper tube. The ingot was then removed from the mould and annealed at 770 °C for 24 h and at 850 °C for 120 h in air. Five similarly shaped samples cut from the same rod,... #2-#6, were additionally annealed at 690-750 °C for 20-150 h in Ar and/or in O2 atmospheres in order to vary the oxygen content..."

Measurement Method: Specific heat method
The authors cite W. Schnelle et al., Physica C, Vol. 168, 465 (1990), and summarize the procedure as follows. "The specific heat was measured between 25 K and 300 K by a continuous method... The resolution of the measurement at the typical Tc of our... samples is better than 5x10-4 of the absolute value, which is only accurate to ±3% due to the poor thermal conductivity of the pellets and to the sometimes insufficient thermal contact between the pellet and the heater."
