Materials and Properties

Hg:1212; [Hg-Ba-Ca-Cu-O]
Material Specification for Hg:1212; [Hg-Ba-Ca-Cu-O] Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "The samples examined were synthesized, following the two step solid state reaction technique... A precursor material with a nominal composition... was prepared by calcinating at 900 °C a thoroughly mixed powder of appropriate amounts of BaCuO2 and CaO in a oxygen atmosphere for 16 h. The calcined powder was then mixed with HgO powder in the proportion of 1:1 for Hg-1212, and compacted into pellets which were sealed in evacuated quartz tubes. The quartz tubes were, in turn, sealed in stainless steel tubes. They were subsequently placed inside a furnace and slowly heated at a rate of (about) 160 °C/h to 800 °C and stayed at this temperature for 9 h before being cooled to room temperature... Finally, the pellets were repeatedly annealed at 300 °C in flowing oxygen at (0.1 MPa = 1 bar) of pressure. It should be noted that throughout our sample preparation, exposure of the material to air was kept to a minimum."
