Material Specification for CaLa:122; [Ca-La(Sr)-Cu-O] Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "Appropriate quantities of La2O3, SrCO3, CaCO3 and CuO powders were mixed and fired to fabricate the La2-xSrxCaCu2O6 samples. The powders were ball milled with ethanol for 10 h. After drying, the mixed powder was calcined four times at 900 °C for 10 h in flowing oxygen with intermediate grindings. Next, the calcined powder was pulverized and then pressed into bar-shaped samples, which were subsequently sintered at 950 °C for 72 h in flowing oxygen. Finally, the sintered samples were O2-HIP (oxygen hot isostatic press) annealed at 1020 °C for 50 h under a total pressure of (101.3 MPa = 1000 atm) (oxygen pressure of (20.3 MPa = 200 atm) and argone pressure 81 MPa = 800 atm.) These were carried out in a HIP (Model:Kobelco O-2-HIP SYSTEM 30X) at the Kobe Steel Company, Ltd."

Measurement Method: Neutron diffraction
"Neutron powder diffraction data... were collected on the general purpose powder diffractometer... at the intense pulse neutron source... at the Argonne National Laboratory. Typically, approximately 10 g of a sample partially filled a standard 0.95 cm diam. vanadium sample tube which was maintained at 298 K. Data were collected simultaneously in detector banks at ±150°, ±90° and ±60°C for 3-4 h for each sample... We refined the structure... using Rietveld refinement codes... The neutron scattering lengths used in these refinements are 8.27, 4.90, 7.02, 7.718, and 5.805 fm for La, Ca, Sr, Cu, and O, respectively."

Measurement Method: SQUID magnetometer
"The susceptibility measurements were made using a Quantum Design Model MPMS SQUID magnetometer and a sintered bar of each composition. The normal state susceptibility was determined in a field of (796 kA/m = 10 kOe)."
