Material Specification for ; [Y-Ni-B-C]
Process: Melt Processed
Notes: "The compounds YNi2B2C were prepared by melting high purity elements Y (99.9%), Ni (99.9%), B (99.8%) and C (99.7%) in an arc furnace under a protective atmosphere of flowing argon. Samples, sealed in quartz ampoules under vacuum, were annealed at 1050 °C for 12 h and cooled to room temperature over a period of 5 h."

Measurement Method: SQUID magnetometer
"For magnetisation measurements, we have used a SQUID magnetometer (Quantum Design MPMS 5). During the measurements we have used a scan length of 4 cm and averaged over 3 scans, each scan containing 32 data points. We have strictly adhered to the same sample position during the measurements. ... A typical M-T plot for YNi
2B
2C... (has a) considerable paramagnetic component (which gives a) peak in the susceptibility... We take the point of inflection in the M-T curve (which indicates the deviation from the concave character of the higher temperature magnetization) as the onset of superconducting transition. This occurs at temperatures 0.5 K to 0.75 K higher than T
... (The coherence length, L, was) obtained using the expression Hc2 = Φ0/2¦ L2."
