Materials and Properties

Y:123; [Y-Ba-Cu-O]
Material Specification for Y:123; [Y-Ba-Cu-O] Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "Pellets of YBa2Cu3Oy used were made by solid state reaction. About 0.5 g powdered YBA2Cu3Oy...was pressed at 200kg/cm2 into 12.5 diam. pellets. The pellets were heated in air to 940 °C in 2 h and kept at 940 °C for 2 h, and then cooled to room temperature. These pellets were subsequently annealed at 550-600 °C in an oxygen atmosphere for 6 h to form the pure superconductor phase... pellets with lower oxygen contents were made by reduction with 10% by volume H2 in N2 at 200 °C for 1-2 h."

"The crystal structures... were characterized by X-ray diffraction using synchrotron radiation....Twenty scans with steps of 0.02° were used for data collection in the 20° < 2θ < 90° range. The data were analyzed by Rietveld refinement using the pseudo-Voigt peak shape function."

Measurement Method: SQUID magnetometer
"Rectangular bars with dimensions of 6x1.5x0.3mm3 were cut from the sample pellets for the measurement of the critical current density by means of SQUID, with the direction of the magnetic field H parallel to the long dimension of the sample." The values of Jc were determined using the Bean formula.
