Material Specification for PbSr:2213; [Pb-Sr-Y(Ca)-Cu-O]
Process: Solid State Reaction
Notes: "Single crystals... were synthesized in a PbO-PbF2 based flux... In the first step, a precursor was prepared by heating stoichiometric amounts of SrCO3, Y2O3, CaCO3 and CuO at 930 °C for fifteen hours in air, with at least one intermediate regrinding. In the second step, the stoichiometric amount of PbO was added to the precursor, pellets of the mixture were heated for 4-6 h in a gas flow of N2 with 1% oxygen and quenched in the same atmosphere in a metal container cooled with liquid nitrogen. In the third step, the prepared pellets of... were immersed in a PbO-PbF2 powder mixture contained in a cylindrical platinum crucible according to the molar ratio 1:1.75:0.4=Pb2Sr2(Y, Ca)Cu3O8:PbO:PbF2. A total of 80 g load was placed in a crucible of dimensions: 6 cm in height and 4 cm in diameter. The platinum crucible was heated in a gas flow of N2 with 1% oxygen in a vertical tube furnace at about 1000 °C for 40 h, cooled at 1°/h to 830 °C and allowed to reach room temperature over a period of 12 h."

Measurement Method: Neutron diffraction
"The neutron diffraction intensities have been collected at the I.L.L. at room temperature on the four-circle diffractometer D9 equipped with a two-dimensional position-sensitive dector. The wavelength used was 0.8460 σ obtained from a Cu (220) monochromator."
