General Materials Processing Notes

The specimens were sintered. Sintering aids for Material Number 1: 5% MgO. Sintering aids for Material Number 2: 1% MgO and 5% Y2O3. Rectangular beams, 5 mm x 2.5 mm x 30 mm, were tested.

Measurement Methods

Three-point bend test
The measurement was made by three-point bend method in air. Instron test machine (Model TT-CM-A0072), crosshead speed = 0.5 mm/min. The reported span of 2.4 mm between supports is questionable. Some specimens were diamond-lapped in the direction parallel to the long axis of the specimen.
