The authors cite I. T. Ostapenko et al., Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Neorg. Mater., Vol. 16, No. 5, 846 (1980), and summarize the procedure as follows. Starting materials included MgO, CaF2, and Si3N4 powder having mass fraction composition (%): 57-60 total Si, 35-39.4 N, 5.5 free Si. Samples were hot pressed and had dimensions 4 mm x 5 mm x 5 mm. Material Number 1-- Sintering Aids: 10% MgO Material Number 2-- Sintering Aids: 10% MgO; 10% CaF2 Material Number 3-- Sintering Aids: 10% MgO; 20% CaF2.

Measurement Methods


Dilatometry
The authors cite M. G. Kolendovskii et al., "Dilatometer with automatic recording of the magnitude of the thermal expansion of solids", Teplofiz. Vys. Temp., Vol. 13, No. 5, 1116 (1975), and summarize the procedure as follows. "The coefficient of thermal expansion α was determined on a quartz dilatometer in the temperature range 300 K to 1300 K. The relative error equalled 5%." No additional measurement details were noted.
