"Tensile Testing of Ceramics," S.G. Seshadri and K.Y. Chia, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, Vol. 70 [10], pp. C242-C244 (1987), published by American Ceramic Society.Language: English
The samples of sintered α-SiC were prepared by uniaxial pressing followed by sintering. Samples were essentially plate specimens having a uniform thickness of 3.2 mm, with wedge shaped ends of 10.2 mm thickness and 89 mm in total length. The edges were chamfered.
The measurements were made by a tensile test method using a self-aligning uniaxial fixture in air at 23 °C with a crosshead speed = 0.508 mm/min. The load was transfered by grip blocks, two on each end of the test piece, in contact with the wedge-shaped sections. An extensometer, 12.5 mm long, was used to measure the strain.
