Material Designation: Y-TZP Primary Matrix: ZrO2 Specimen A: Additives: 4.66 wt% Y2O3 Densification Process: SINTERED/1500C/207MPa Specimen B,C: Additives: 5.27 wt% Y2O3 Densification Process: SINTERED/1500C/207MPa Specimen D: Additives: 5.52 wt% Y2O3 Densification Process: SINTERED/1500C/207MPa Specimen E: Additives: 4.7 wt% Y2O3 Densification Process: SINTERED/1500C/207MPa Specimen F: Additives: 4.53 wt% Y2O3 + 1.91 wt% CeO2 Densification Process: SINTERED/1500C/207MPa Specimen G: Additives: 4.49 wt% Y2O3 + 3.99 wt% CeO2 Densification Process: SINTERED/1500C/207MPa Specimen H: Additives: 4.7 wt% Y2O3 Densification Process: SINTERED/1500C/207MPa General Notes: "Yttria and Ce-doped ZrO2 were prepared by arc-melting and rapid solidification. The crude material was then vibratory milled (Sweco) to produce average sizes of 0.4 µm, 0.5 µm, and 0.7 µm. Powder was then dry-pressed and CIPed at 207 MPa and fired at 1500 °C. A few billets were also gas-pressure sintered at 1500 °C."
"Specimens 3.175 mm x 3.25 mm x 35 mm were machined from fired billets, then broken in a 4-point bend fixture using an inner span of 12.7 mm, outer span of 25.4 mm. Tests at room temperature were run at a crosshead speed of 0.0085 mm/s, while tests at elevated temperatures used a faster crosshead speed (see test results for specifics)."
