"In this letter the results of temperature measurements to (1100 °C) of Young's modulus (E) of titanium diboride with iron addition are presented; for comparison the influence of temperature on E for hot-pressed TiB2... has also been studied. The system TiB2-Fe is a eutectic one (Teut = 1340 °C, the composition of eutectic is Fe-6.3 mol% TiB2). The samples for the study were obtained from initial thermoreacting components by a hot-pressing technique under conditions of self propagating high temperature synthesis with further application of pressure. According to metallographic and X-ray phase analysis, samples of TiB2-28 vol% Fe were double phase."

Measurement Methods

Resonant ultrasound method
"The measurements were made by a resonance ultrasonic method in vacuum (0.06 Pa) on disc-shaped samples (d = 15 mm - 20 mm, h = 3 mm). The measurement error was 3%."
