Components:
   (1) Water; H2O; [7732-18-5]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail
   (2) 1-Bromo-3-chloropropane; C3H6BrCl; [109-70-6]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail

Critical Evaluation:

The solubility of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane (1) in water (2) has been studied by three work groups; whereas, the solubility of water (2) in 1-bromo-3-chloropropane (1) has not been investigated yet.

The solubility value of Dreisbach1 at 25 °C is greater by a factor of 8.1 than those of Tewari et al.2 and of Miller et al.3 The data reported in the latter two papers originate from the same laboratory and the agreement is therefore sound. Not enough workers have measured the solubility of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane in water over common ranges of temperature to provide recommended solubility values. Further studies will be necessary before even tentative values can be prescribed. All the available data for the solubility of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane (1) in water (2) in weight percent and mole fraction are summarized in Table 10.
