Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
Saturation of the 1,4-dichlorobenzene in water was established by shaking the mixture in a sealed tube suspended in a thermostat water bath for 1-2 weeks. The sealed tube was allowed to stand for two or three days without shaking before analysis. Samples from the saturated solution were extracted with 2,2,4-trimethylpentene. Then, the concentration was established from optical density using a previously prepared standard calibration curve.
Source and Purity of Materials:
(1) Commercial product (E. Merck AG0, recrystallized twice from abs. Ethanol.
(2) Distilled, deionized and degassed.
Estimated Errors:
Solubility: ±1.5 % (author).
Temperature: ±0.05 K. (author).
