Original Measurements:
Milligan, L.H., J. Phys. Chem. 1924, 28, 494-7.
Variables:
Temperature = One temperature: 25 °C
Prepared By:
G.T. Hefter
Experimental Remarks:
The solubility of benzene in water at 25 °C was reported to be 0.07 mL (1)/100 ml (2).
Experimental Data:
(Notes on the Nomenclature)
Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
20 cm
3
of benzene/air vapor were introduced into a glass cell, containing 120 cm
3
of air-saturated distilled water in a thermostatted water bath. The apparatus was removed from the bath and shaken for two minutes to bring about equilibrium. Benzene solubility in water was determined by analysis of the vapor by combustion in a Haldane apparatus before and after equilibration.
Source and Purity of Materials:
(1) not specified.
(2) distilled.
