Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
About 50 cm
3
of (1) was introduced into a clean dry glass tube about 3.5 cm in diameter with a narrow inlet, a small amount of (2) was added from a weighted pipette, and the tube at once sealed off. It was then agitated at a sufficently high temperature until all (2) had gone into solution, placed in a bath of water, and allowed to cool slowly. The temperature at which (1) was saturated with respect to (2) was taken to be that at which opalescence appeared.
Source and Purity of Materials:
(1) source not specified; dried over sodium wire; distilled from sodium.
(2) not specified.
Estimated Errors:
Temperature: ± 1.5 K
