Glass Ball as Bullet Solubility System: Propylbenzene with Water

Components:
   (1) Water; H2O; [7732-18-5]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail
   (2) Propylbenzene; C9H12; [103-65-1]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail

Original Measurements:
   Krasnoschchekova, R.Ya.; Gubergrits, M.Ya., Vodnye. Resursy. 1975, 2, 170-3.

Variables:
   Temperature = 25 °C

Prepared By:
   A. Maczynski

Experimental Remarks:

The solubility of propylbenzene in water at 25°C was reported to be 0.070 mg(1) cm–3 sln.

The corresponding mass percent and mole fraction, x1, calculated by the compiler are 0.0070 g(1)/100 g sln and 1.05 × 10–5. The assumption that 1.00 cm–3 sln = 1.00 g sln was used in the calculation.

Experimental Data:   (Notes on the Nomenclature)
   Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The solubility of (1) in (2) was determined by glc. A Czech-made Chrom-2 chromatograph was used, equipped with a 5% Apiezon L/Chromosorb G column operated at 90-140°C.

Source and Purity of Materials:
   (1) described in ref (1).
   (2) distilled

Estimated Errors:

   Temperature: ± 1°C
