Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The points on the binodal curve were determined by the titration method, as described in Ref. 1. The formation of a cloudy mixture was observed visually on shaking after addition of a known mass of the third component; syringes were precisely weighed. Tie line compositions were determined by the refractive index method
2
, and a complementary method using the Karl Fischer titration
3
. Measurements were made at pressure of 94.7 kPa.
Source and Purity of Materials:
(1) Merck; AR grade; dried by addition of anhydrous K
2
CO
3
, distilled; purity >99.9 mole % by glc.
(2) BDH; Gold label grade; used as received; purity >99.9 mole % by glc.
(3) Source not specified.
Estimated Errors:
Solubility: Not reported.
Temperature: Composition ±0.005 mole fraction (binodal curve), ±0.01 mole fraction (tie lines).
