Glass Ball as Bullet Solubility System: 2-Methylpropane with Polystyrene (PS)

Components:
   (1) Polystyrene (PS); ; [9003-53-6]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail
   (2) 2-Methylpropane; C4H10; [75-28-5]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail

Critical Evaluation:

Three experimental sutdies1-3 are available for the solubility of 2-methylpropane in PS. The results have been obtained by means of inverse gas chromatography.
Solubility coefficients S/(cm3(STP) g-1 atm-1) from these papers are compared below.

It is evident that there is a reasonable agreement between the data at higher temperatures, but at the lower temperature the discrepancy becomes significant. Further research is desirable to resolve this system.
