Notes:
a  The molality values were calculated by the compilers.
   b  The solid phases are: A = Cd(CHO2)2•2H2O; B = CdBa(CHO2)4•2H2O; C = Ba(CHO2)2.

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The isothermal method was used. The mixtures were placed in glass vessels in a thermostat and stirred mechanically. Equilibrium was reached in 2 weeks. The barium content of both phases was determined gravimetrically as BaSO 4 in the presence of Complexon III.1 The cadmium content was determined complexometrically. The composition of the solid phases was determined by Schreinemakers' method, IR spectroscopy, TG analysis, and x-ray diffraction.

Source and Purity of Materials:
The barium formate was p.a. grade. The cadmium formate was prepared by the reaction of 85% formic acid with p.a. grade CdCO3. Both formates were recrystallized twice from a 1% formic acid solution.

Estimated Errors:

   Temperature: Not given.
