Glass Ball as Bullet Solubility System: 1-Nitropropane with Water

Components:
   (1) 1-Nitropropane; C3H7NO2; [108-03-2]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail
   (2) Water; H2O; [7732-18-5]  NIST Chemistry WebBook for detail

Evaluator:

Critical Evaluation:

           Quantitative solubility data for the system 1-nitropropane (1) + water (2) were reported in the publications listed in Table 1.

        The original data are given in the data sheets immediately following this Critical Evaluation. The data point for the nitropropane-rich phase at 303 K (Hankinson and Thompson1) and also in the water-rich phase at 298 K (Hankinson and Thompson1) is marked disagreement with other studies and therefore rejected. All other reported data are used in Table 2 and Table 3 below.
       Values obtained by the evaluator by graphical interpolation or extrapolation from the data sheets are presented in the Table 2 and Table 3. Data are"recommended" if two or more apparently reliable studies are is reasonable (± 5 % relative) agreement. All other data are regarded as tentative only.

        The solubility of 1-nitropropane in water (x1) and solubility of water in 1-nitropropane (x2) reported in the above table have been approximated by equations:

               x1 = 2·10-11· (T/K)4 - 3·10-8· (T/K)3 + 2·10-5· (T/K)2 - 0.0044· (T/K) + 0.4128 (mean standard error of estimate was 0.0347).

               x2 = -3·10-9· (T/K)4 + 5·10-6· (T/K)3 - 0.0022· (T/K)2+ 0.459· (T/K) - 36.292 (mean standard error of estimate was 0.0031).

        This relationship is presented in Fig. 12
