Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
Capillary flow viscosimetry was used. Ubbelhode type viscometer was modified to measure viscosity of coexisting liquid phases. The viscometer and stirrer were placed in a bath having a temperature measured with a precision of l mK, using a Pt resistance thermometer. CST for each sample was determined visually, on repeated heating and cooling.
Source and Purity of Materials:
(1) Fisons; purity 95.0 mass %; fractionally distilled on a spinning band column at reduced pressure; purity 99.97 mass %.
(2) Koch-Light; puriss; 3 mass % of 2-methyl-pentane impurity; fractionated on a spinning band column; 0.01 mass % organic impurities by GLC.
Estimated Errors:
Temperature: ±0.001 K.
