Variables:
Temperature = One temperature: 303.15 K
Prepared By:
A. Maczynski
Experimental Remarks:
The solubility of water in benzene at 303.15 was reported to be 0.064 g(2)/mol (1).
The corresponding mass percent and mole fraction,
x
2
, values calculated by compiler are 0.082 g(2)/100g sln and 0.0035.
Experimental Data:
(Notes on the Nomenclature)
Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The titrations were carried out in well stoppered volumetric flasks in order to check for loss due to vaporization. Shaking after each addition of water was done in an ultrasonic shaker for at least 30 min. The contents were equilibrated in a thermostat. The final end point was determined when a second phase appeared and the volume of the water added was noted. Each titration was repeated at least three times to check the reproducibility of the results.
Source and Purity of Materials:
(1) BDH, analar quality; purified; purity not specified.
(2) conductivity water.
Estimated Errors:
Solubility: ± 5% (type of error not specified).
Temperature: ± 0.05 K
