Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The method used was the isothermal decrease of supersaturation. Equilibrium was reached in 10-15 hrs. The manganese content was determined complexometrically. The chloride ion content was determined volumetrically by the Mohr method. The manganese formate concentration was estimated by difference. The composition of the ideally suction-dried solid phase was determined by the Schreinemakers method. X-ray diffraction and DT analysis were also carried out.
Source and Purity of Materials:
The manganese chloride was p. a. grade (Merck). The manganese formate was prepared by the reaction of dilute formic acid with manganese oxide, carbonate or hydroxide all of which were p.a. grade (Merck or Fluka).
